FAQ
Which class is right for me?
Kids’ classes
Kids’ Beginners class is for ages 8+years who are new to sewing or have limited skills. In this class we do a variety of fun, easy to follow projects.
Kids’ Intermediate class is for 10+years and is aimed at kids who have done at least 3 terms of Beginners class or have equivalent experience. We still do a variety of fun projects, however we may do less projects as some will span over 2-3 weeks due to increased complexity.
You do need a vaccine pass for the kids’ weekly sewing classes. This is for those who are 12 years and 3 months or older.
Adult classes
Beginner Adults is aimed at new sewers or confident beginners. We do a variety of projects that incorporate a number of different techniques. Some of the techniques you may learn, but are not limited to are, how to add a zipper, using interfacing, adding a drawstring, how to make boxed corners etc.
Intermediate Adult classes are for confident sewers who are able to self manage their projects but who may just require a little direction regarding new techniques.
You do need a vaccine pass for weekly sewing classes, as these are close contact classes and we share equipment. There may be other classes (where social distancing and other measures are employed) which are run without passes, and these will be advertised on the specific class info page.
Other Questions
We have a number of sewing machines available for use at the Sewing Clinic. However if you have a sewing machine it can be beneficial to bring it along so that you can become familiar with it and feel comfortable using it at home.
For the kids’ classes all fabric will be provided. For the adult beginner classes fabric will be provided for some of the small projects but you will need to provide fabric for the larger projects. Intermediate adult classes will need to bring their own fabric.
All fabric requirements will be communicated prior to class.
The Sewing Clinic is located at Lindale Village, 111 Main Road North, Otaihanga, Paraparaumu. We are at the far end of the complex. Just look for the pink Sewing Clinic logo on the windows. There is plenty of parking available right in front of the building.
The Sewing Clinic is only open when classes and workshops are being run. Registration for classes is done online through our website or by email.
It is important that you check your schedule ahead of your booking to ensure that you are able to attend all classes. As you are buying your place in the class, we are unable to sell that space to anyone else should you not be able to attend part way through. By paying for your space in the course you are agreeing to our terms and conditions as set out in our cancellation policy.
Unfortunately, we are unable to transfer your missed class to another day. We have limited numbers in each class, to slot you into an already full class would compromise the quality of the lesson for the other students, which isn’t fair. There will be the chance to do a catch up class in our break week, this will be at a cost of $20.
